Automatically Add Captions to Your TikTok Videos

Auto captions are a great way to make your TikTok videos more accessible and engaging. Subtitles can help you stand out from the crowd, but they can also make your content more accessible to people with hearing impairments or whose primary language isn’t English. Luckily, adding captions to your TikTok videos is easy. Here’s how you do it.

Turn on Auto Captions in Settings

When you first open TikTok, tap “Me” in the bottom right corner of the screen and then tap “Settings” at the top of the page. Scroll down until you see “Accessibility,” and then tap “Captions.” You should now see an option that says “Automatically Generate Captions for Uploaded Videos.” Make sure this option is switched on so that any video you upload will be auto-captioned.

Edit Auto Captions

Once you upload a video, you may find that some of the auto-generated captions are incorrect or need to be changed slightly. To edit an auto caption, open the video and select “Edit” at the bottom of the screen. Select “Auto Captions” from the list and then press “Edit.” You can now manually change any part of the captions to make them more accurate or change their wording as needed. Once you’re finished making edits, press “Save” in the top right corner of the screen to save your changes.

Add Custom Captions

If you want to add custom captions rather than using auto-generated ones, open your video and select “Edit” again at the bottom of the screen. Tap “Captions” from this menu and then type out your own subtitles in each field provided. When you’re done typing out all your subtitles, press “Done” in the top right corner of your screen — this will save all your custom captions for this video!
